For several years, St. Luke's has offered two distinctive learning ministries on Sunday morning: the preaching series and the Christian learning series. While this format has certain advantages, it also has certain drawbacks. In particular, this approach causes our community to "segment" into different conversations and sets up inevitable conflicts with parishioners in our choir and coffee hour ministries.
Beginning Sunday, August 11th, we will be bringing our worship, learning and fellowship into closer alignment by making the Sunday morning sermon the focus of our learning and conversation for the day. After worship, the preacher for that Sunday will attend coffee hour and sit at a "sermon conversation" table where those who gather can ask questions, offer thoughts and feedback, and dig more deeply into the topic at hand. Participation in the sermon conversation table is voluntary, and people can feel free to come and go as they please. Our hope is that this new approach to spiritual formation will be more welcoming, more sustainable and more unifying for the community of St. Luke's.
