The Feast of the Epiphany

Join us Sunday, January 6 at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM for the Feast of the Epiphany at St. Luke's Episcopal in Auburn!

We will be blessing the chalk for the Epiphany House Blessing:

Instructions for the Epiphany Home Blessing:

As you leave St. Luke’s this Sunday, January 6, you will be given a piece of blessed chalk. This is an old Epiphany tradition. The following line should be written on the lintel above the front door of your home (on the street door, if a house, on the front door of your apartment otherwise) with the chalk you take home. It contains the first letters of each of the Magi’s names, written between the year:

20 † G † M † B † 19

Once you are finished, this prayer is said:

O Lord, Holy Father Almighty, everlasting God, we beseech thee to hear us: and vouchsafe to send thy holy Angel from heaven, to guard, cherish, protect, and visit, and evermore defend all that dwell in this house. I call upon thy Saints Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, to protect my family and my home from every harm and danger, and I place this mark over my door to remain as a constant reminder to us, and all who enter here, that my house is truly a house of the Lord. O God make the door of my house the gateway to thine Eternal Kingdom. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord. Amen.

The leftover chalk may be used or buried in the ground. Please don’t throw it in the trash!
